Hi friends.
It’s been a while since I did an update on the whole “follow a book from acquisition to publication” project for you, my dearest supporters! Three reasons:
Publishing goes to sleep from mid-November through January 1 every year, then spends all of January playing catch up. In the meantime, authors always have deadlines galore so things will be waiting for the industry folks when they get back to their desks! So awesome and fair and equitable.
I’ve been frantically drafting the YA D&D Romance formerly known as The Rules as Written (more on that later) for a February 12 deadline.
Publishing generally follows a frantic sort of “hurry up and wait” pattern, where nothing happens for long stretches of time… then suddenly everyone needs something done on a project right now. I don’t know why it always manages to align across multiple projects at different publishers, but it sure does. We’ve been in a dry spell, but I know the hammer’s going to fall very soon, as you’ll see.
Let’s do some updates!
