All Fired Up is out today! Bye for now.
10 books. Time for a break. And by break, I mean frantically writing on deadline.
And that makes 10. All Fired Up is officially in the world today (!!!) and that makes ten published novels to my name.
I’ve reached double digits of books published, and it feels huge and emotional and scary and weird. Here it is by the numbers, because numbers are much easier to wrap my head around:
Full-length novels: 10
Anthologies: 3
Young Adult: 4
Middle Grade: 3
Adult: 3Novels forthcoming: 6 (3 adult, 3 middle grade)
Anthologies forthcoming: 1 (…maybe 2?)
This is a milestone I never thought to dream of. Publishing even one book felt impossible at the start. Then I did that, but also saw firsthand how rough the industry is, and figured I’d never publish again. Then I did. Then I set a goal to earn enough via publishing to be full time, so I could have a flexible schedule for my young kid. Then I did. Will I be able to keep going? How long can I keep getting away with this? In the current political climate, I’m pretty sure my job as a minor midlist writer of queer fiction is about to get significantly more unstable, but…
Can I get to 20 books?
I guess we’ll find out. I’m gonna keep trying.
(I mean, I have three books out on submission right now so cross your fingers, y’all!)
But most importantly: THANK YOU. I couldn’t share these stories at all if people weren’t out there reading and supporting them. You are the ones who got me to ten books, and I’ll always be grateful for you. The real joy of writing is pouring my heart into a story and having it resonate in someone else’s heart. When I try so hard to say something in my writing and you actually hear it, it’s the best feeling in the world. So, cheers, y’all. Here’s to 10 more.
And, if adult sapphic romance with spice is your thing, pick up a copy of All Fired Up at the retailer of your choice here. Happy book birthday to my adult romance debut!
Reviews are the sincerest love
Roll for Love has been in the world for three whole weeks! If you’ve had a chance to read it, I would so appreciate it if you could leave a review on storygraph, goodreads, amazon, barnes & noble, or wherever else you like to leave reviews. It’s free for you and an incredibly huge help for me; people don’t like to buy books with barely any reviews, and authors don’t buy groceries if people don’t buy books, ha.
Barnes & Noble apparently chose not to stock All Fired Up, so if you feel so moved, please call or walk into a B&N today and request it, or review it on the B&N site. Or, better yet, just buy it from your local indie and forget them entirely. The hold they have on the industry is ridiculous sometimes.
Upcoming events
If you’re in the Richmond, VA area, I hope to see you tonight at 6pm for the All Fired Up launch at Fountain Books! RSVP here (or just show up!).
I have some events coming up throughout the summer; details are still being finalized for many of them, but I’ll be in Arlington, VA in June, I have a rare appearance in NYC in July, and a small local nerd convention in Charlottesville, VA also in July. Keep an eye on my events page for details as they solidify.
Taking a break
My schedule for the rest of this year is kinda wild. I have several books to write, several others to revise, a kid who will be on summer break, a farm that needs maintenance and harvesting, and a billion other things.
But also, the internet just makes me tired. I don’t care if that makes me sound absolutely ancient. It’s true. Just having instagram installed on my phone saps the life out of me in a weird way I can’t explain. My social life, my activism, my family, and everything else that’s truly important to me exists offline in my local community, and being chronically online takes away from that in a very real way. And so, since I have no other books out this year (except for the This is How We Roll Queer TTRPG Anthology, which you’ll hear more about another day!), I’ll be deleting instagram again and dropping off the face of the earth for the rest of the year, much as I did in 2024. (It was glorious.)
Ultimately, I want this newsletter to be my primary communication with you. Comment, reply, stay in touch—I miss engaging with y’all when I’m off social media, and so I hope we can be together here instead. I’ll share more personal stuff once in a while, like I would in my instagram stories (the rural life antics do seem to entertain y’all), and also keep you updated on all the things I have in the pipeline, but never more than once per month at most. Your inbox real estate is valuable, and I get that.
But come on. This guy is worth it, right?
Thank you:
For two wonderful book releases this month. For all your support. For caring about my words and letting me know when something I write matters to you. I appreciate you every day.
Go forth, make good trouble, love, find joy, and fight like hell.
So incredibly proud to have worked in your periphery. You’re amazing and here’s to making it 20! ❤️
It’s beautiful to see them all stacked up. Look at all that nerdom you created and added to. What an accomplishment!
